General admission $25,    Students, seniors, military $20
Delaney Driscoll as Juno Boyle

Joe Miloni as Joxer Daly

Brent Spencer as “Captain” Jack Boyle
“O’Casey’s extravagant portrait of the poetically comic and tragic world of a Dublin torn apart by the chaos of the Irish Civil War.   The gestures of life are often broad, and the speech torrential as Jack Boyle and sidekick Joxer Daly’s drinking and posturing rise to comic heights. When the news of an unexpected inheritance arrives, the family sees a flame of hope as the heroic Juno Boyle dreams of taking war-crippled son, Johnny, and his sister, young Mary, out of their squalid surroundings into a better life.
Sean O’Casey’s perfect fusion of realism and poetry, of somber tragedy and extravagant comedy jostling one another in his 1924 Dublin masterpiece, Juno and the Paycock unsettles us and whirls us about” (IrishRep).
The Brigit St Brigit’s production is brought to vibrant life by an exquisite cast that features Equity artist Delaney Driscoll as Juno and Brent Spencer as her husband, the “paycock” in the title roles; beautifully supported by Jennifer McGill and Noah Diaz as their children; Joseph Miloni as Boyle’s ne’er-do-well buddy, Joxer Daly; and MaryBeth Adams as the loquacious tenement-neighbor Maisie Madigan. Nick Hartnett, Scottie Pace, Charleen Willoughby, Eric Grant-Leanna, and Tim Duggan serve O’Casey’s story equally well in the dizzying variety of characters–earnest or grieving–nosy or on-the-make–dangerous and armed–that people the 1922 Dublin tenement.   The project, including this production, is co-stage managed by Maria Heffron and Charlotte Spires.  The play is directed by Cathy Kurz.
The Brigit St Brigit Theatre is located on the Northwest corner of 10th and Dodge.

Feb 23  Irish Poetry Laments A Brigit St Brigit Special Event “Irish Poetry Laments: A Murder and A Catastrophe” A rare and lovely occasion will occur with the exploration –in the Gaelic and the English–of two 18th-century Irish poems, Eanach Dhuin was written by Raftery, the blind, traveling musician from County Mayo. The Lament for Art O Laoghaire was written by Eibhlin Dhubh Ni Chonaill, a well-educated and situated woman from Cork. These two works are descriptions of/responses to actual events (the sinking of a fair boat causing multiple drownings, and the keen of a widow whose husband has been murdered at the hands of a British official), and each is a “key” poem in the Irish oral (told and sung) and written traditions. Dr. Richard Murphy–Irish scholar, Corkman, and BSB historical advisor–will host the evening, framing the poetry in its context, and treating us to the sound of it (spoken and sometimes sung) in Gaelic as actors Tim Duggan, Charleen Willoughby, and MaryBeth Adams alternate in the English. See how Irish events have been transformed and woven into the culture over centuries through poetry and song.

Location : 1002 Dodge     2 PM Admission: $15 general/$12 student, senior, military Reservations: online at bsbtheatre.com or (402) 502-4910
